PFEIFER WINS PFOURTH, POESSNECKER TRIUMPHANT IN RETURN AT WAGNER

Following over an inch of rain early Friday morning, crews worked hard to get Wagner Speedway into race shape and the Fort Randall Casino Weekly Racing Series was on, presented by Koenig Lumber of Fairfax. Special guests to headline the show were the T&R Contracting Late Model Street Stock series.

The opening feature of the night was the Roth Custom Farming IMCA Hobby Stocks and the winner came from the 10th starting position. Craig Clift (Sioux City, IA) saw the green flag wave and he immediately went to the top of the racetrack and quickly moved to the front, securing his second victory of the season. Clift easily outdistanced Joel Magee (Palm Beach Gardens, FL), who settled for second. Tony Fetterman (Elk Point, SD) came from 11th to finish in third, with Kaylb Brunssen (LeMars, IA) settling for fourth and Mike Hanson (Meckling, SD) rounding out the top five. With Fetterman finishing one position ahead of Brunssen, he takes a slim one-point lead over Brunssen. Heat races were won by Matt Rezac (Tabor, SD), Magee and Clift.

By far and away, the most entertaining feature of the evening came in the Ponca Valley Seeds IMCA Northern Sport Mods. The sixth edition of the Josh Pfeifer (St Paul, NE) versus Dudley Schroeder, Jr (Armour, SD) battle was the best yet. Pfeifer, who started sixth, found his way around Raymond Bigge (Armour, SD) to take the point. Meanwhile, Schroeder, Jr, who started ninth, was marching through the field. Once Schroeder, Jr got to the second spot, the chase was on. Schroeder, Jr looked to run the high line to make his move, dove to the bottom to get a run on the lead, nothing was working, and Pfeifer fought off all challenges. Things looked to get very interesting as a caution flag waved with four laps to go. Once the green was shown, Schroeder, Jr kept the pressure on, but Pfeifer was up to the task, picking up his fourth win of 2021 at Wagner. Schroeder, Jr settled for second, having his point lead dwindled to one, with Raymond Bigge finishing third, Shawn Pudwill (Sturgis, SD) fourth and Luke Jackson (Sioux City, IA) rounding out the top five. Heat races were won by Schroeder, Jr and Bigge.

In the Payer Livestock IMCA Sport Compacts, its common place to see a driver with the last name of Brown and a hometown of Yankton, SD be in victory lane. Usually, it's Conner, but Taylor decided to show some brotherly love and take one from his teammate. Taylor Brown (Yankton, SD) started third and held off his brother Conner Brown (Yankton, SD) to pick up his first win of the season, pulling himself to within three points of Conner. Auston Honeycutt (Sioux City, IA) completed the top three, with Taylor Brown winning the heat race.

The Mark's Machinery IMCA Stock Cars saw a driver win in his first appearance on dirt since July 2020. Because of a shortage of racecar parts and running two separate businesses, Dusty Poessnecker (Atkinson, NE) was able to strap into his 22P machine and made the most of his opportunity. Poessnecker, who started fifth, worked his way around Logan Kafka (Wagner, SD) to garner top honors. Following Poessnecker and Kafka were last week's winner Brady Wenzlaff (Yankton, SD), Joel Namminga (Avon, SD) and Darwin Iedema (Geddes, SD). Kafka was victorious in the heat.

The T&R Contracting Late Model Street Stocks opened their 18-lap feature with front row starter Corey Yeigh (Sioux Falls, SD) jumping to the lead. Yeigh had the field covered with relative ease, but caution flags would slow down the field and bring them back to his rear bumper. Several hard challenges by John Hoing (Hartford, SD) were unsuccessful and Yeigh picked up his fifth win of the season in the LMSS class. Hoing would settle for second, with Tim Dann (Hartford, SD) taking third, coming from the ninth starting spot. Zach Olivier (Sioux Falls, SD) came across in fourth with hard charger Brylee Gough (Sioux Falls, SD) moving up seven spots to round out the top five. Heat races were won by Aaron Foote (Hartford, SD) and J.J. Zebell (Parker, SD).

Week seven of the Fort Randall Casino Weekly Racing Series will commence this Friday, June 18th with the return of the DK Flooring and Custom IMCA Racesaver sprint cars and the CHS/Farmer's Alliance Late Models. They will join the Mark's Machinery IMCA Stock Cars, the Ponca Valley Seeds IMCA Northern Sport Mods, the Ponca Valley Seeds IMCA Hobby Stocks and the Payer Livestock IMCA Sport Compacts. Pits open at 3pm, grandstands open at 5pm, hot laps are scheduled for 7:15pm with racing to follow.
