Andes Central high school girls listened to a presentation given by D’Este Chytka about respecting themselves and the woman around them.

20 Years Ago – 2004
The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources has awarded an Excellent Operation and Maintenance Award to the City of Lake Andes wastewater treatment system.
Robin R. Bures has accepted membership in the Golden Key International Honor Society and was individually honored during a campus ceremony.
Andes Central High School hosted Laurie Stenburg-Nicholas, dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the South Dakota State University, to speak to Native American students about the 2+2+2.
West Nile season was approaching. There was a West Nile program held in the community room of the courthouse in Armour to inform people of West Nile.
A meeting was held in Pierre over the protection of cultural and historic sites along the Missouri River due to the lowering and raising of the river’s water levels.
30 Years Ago – 1994
A son, Jordon, was born to Wayne and Rhonda Blair.

Marissa Kraning will be presenting Andes Central at the annual Argus Leader spelling contest.
Jim and John Stone took first place in the State Wrestling meet, Jim in the 13- and 14-yearold age group and John in the 11- and 12-year-old age group.
50 Years Ago – 1974
Girls Staters chosen were Carolyn Reinschmidt, Melinda Moncrief and Roxanne Adam. Alternates were Denise Gasper, Betty Allen and Karen Bechen.
Robin Adam was first place winner in the Americanism Essay Contest.
For the fourth time since being signed to Tactical Air Command in 1970, the South Dakota Air National Guard is being evaluated.
60 Years Ago – 1964
A new trophy case at Lake Andes School was purchased for the bank room with the money received by the band in Wagner on Labor Day, 1963.It was purchased by Mr. Don Thompson, band director, and installed in the band room.
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Dilts are the parents of a baby girl named Cindy Beth.
70 Years Ago – 1954
A big step toward the beginning of a Boy Scout Council Camp was negotiated when a building donated by Johnson- Winston Contractors were moved to the campsite, one mile north of the old Wheeler bridge store.
80 Years Ago – 1944
A new locker service was recently installed at Mat’s Market.
Nearly five inches of rain fell the past two weeks, delaying the planting of small grain in the area.
90 Years Ago – 1934
The area received six inches of snow on April 9th.
Schools in the area were closed for a few days due to measles epidemic.
Mrs. Frank Kellison opened a coffee shop at her house which is the first door west of Danks Pharmacy.
A grand opening was held at the Gambles Store, which is located next door to the Bach Hotel.
At the district band concert held in Geddes, the Lake Andes high school band won first place in the class C for the second time in the past two years and will enter state tournament in Vermillion.
100 Years Ago – 1924
Contractor Albert Friberg started work on the county machine sheds which will be erected just across the railroad track from the section house.
110 Years Ago – 1914
Mrs. L. Peterson of Fulton rented the Gunsul Main Street building and will open a millinery store. A little later she will add and stock 5, 10, 25 cent goods and conduct and up to date notion store in connection with the millinery. Mr. Peterson expected to arrive shortly and has rented the Harding building and will open a photography gallery.
Mesdames E. Benjamin and mother will open a dress making parlor in the Crambilt building. They will also conduct a school of instruction for those desiring to learn dress making.
