Andes Central students attended the Make It Happen conference that was held in Wagner.

The Modern Woodmen Cap #18045 provided $2,500 in matching funds to the Lake Andes Dakota senior meals program.

20 Years Ago – 2004

From thousands of entries, Sherry Myears and Dave Mack were selected as two of the Top Ten Poets in the high school division of the Young Poets’ Contest.

Twenty-four students from Marty Indian School attended the Indian Youth Conference 2000 at the Crossroads Inn in Huron.

Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Christopher S. De Geest recently returned from a routine, scheduled deployment on board the USS Peleiu, homeported in San Diego, while assigned to the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit based out of Camp Pendleton, CA.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Grand opening ceremonies were held for the new Fort Randall Federal Credit Union building in Pickstown.

Leonard Nelson retired after serving 30 years with the South Dakota Extension Service.

The 695th Radar Squadron at Pickstown was assigned to the Sioux City Air Defense Sector has been selected to represent the 29th Air Division in competition for the 1963 ADC Radar Trophy.

Lucille Jones won first place in the Essay Contest sponsored by the Charles-Mix Rural Electric Association.

A miscellaneous bridal shower was held for Carol Jones.

Leslie B. Lewis has accepted a call to become pastor of the First Presbyterian Church.

After five years of service as minister of the Pickstown Community Church, the Rev. Robert E. Grimm will be leaving.

The first water-bath canners to be manufactured since 1941 will be made this spring for use in the season’s home canning, says the State College Extension Service.

Miss Kate Manley rented the Harding building and will open a millinery store.

L. Donovan informed the paper that he will open an automobile garage and repair shop in the Van Scoter building sometime the fore part of next month.
