10 Years Ago – 2014
The 2014 Military Ball was held. Margaret Doom was crowned Queen. Megan Kocer was the 1st runner-up and Payton Johanneson was 2nd runner-up.
Jenna Kitchenmaster, a student at Northwestern College toured 10 states with the college’s a cappella choir.
Leo Hopkins placed third in the 120-pound weight class at the State Wrestling Championships. 20 Years Ago – 2004
Charon Asetoyer, author of the book Women’s Health Book Within the Sacred Circle with several elders held a book signing at the Fort Randall Casino.
A card shower was held in honor of Rita Bingham’s 90th birthday.
Modern Woodman Junior Club #17406-1 held its first meeting.
A new Rescue Van was purchased for the Lake Andes-Ravinia Fire District.

The Lake Andes Co-op Building center received an Outstanding Dealer Sales Award during a dealership seminar.
Firemen honored for 20 years of service included Lloyd Houseman, Marvin Gall, Norm Ronfeldt and Richard Bruner.
40 Years Ago – 1984
The Junior class consisting of 32 members has successfully completed the recently offered 15-hour basic rescue course.
The Lake Andes Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Andes Senior Citizen Association and the Ambulance Association announced the beginning of a fund drive for the construction for the new multi-purpose center to be constructed in the spring at Second and Main Streets.
50 Years Ago – 1974
Rod Payer and Sam Holderby have been named to the Prep All-American Football squad for 1973-1974.
Patricia Vacek and Robert Decker were married.
60 Years Ago – 1964
The Pickstown Engineers were runner-ups in the District 28 Tournament for the third year in a row when they lost to Bonesteel 41-45 in a thrilling hard fought game.
A reception was held at the United Presbyterian Church honoring Mr. and Mrs. Verne Dvorak.
The Charles-Mix County Treasurer’s Office reports and increase of $14,312.90 in 1963 sales of fishing and hunting licenses over 1962.
Golf enthusiasts met in the Blue Room in Pickstown and were overwhelmingly favorable to a proposed course. The site of the course is planned for the east edge of Pickstown.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Scott of Ravinia celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Kurt Breen celebrated his 5th birthday.
Committee members met to organize a Boy Scout troop under the sponsorship of the Lake Andes Chamber of Commerce. Sam Mead was elected Chairman.

The Rev. Virgil Fjerke has accepted the pastorate of the East and West Lutheran churches.
Members of the senior class were sponsors of a high school dance. Admission was 25 cents for boys and 20 cents for girls.

The coldest weather and deepest snow of the winter started with a snow Saturday bringing four inches of snow and colder weather reaching a climax Monday morning when temperatures registered below 16 and 20 below zero.

At a beauty contest recently held at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, Miss Eleanor Holden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Holden, received the prize as the most beautiful girl.
