1931 - 90 years ago

Mrs. Jack Hart, who had been a guest for a few days of her brother, State's Atty. Paul J. Kern, left Tuesday for a few days visit with her parents at Elkton before departing for New York City, where she is an operatic singer on the Orpheum circuit.

Miss Mildred Lindquist returned Saturday from Sioux City where she had visited her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willer for a couple of weeks.

Miss May Martin, came the middle of last week for a ten day visit in the home of her cousin, Mrs. G. F. Buche and family.

1951 - 70 years ago

G. O. Evans, Area Engineer, Fort Randall Dam, has announced that the work area at the dam will be open to the general public from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, September 2nd and 3rd, weather and road constructions permitting.

Mrs. Judson Smith, a resident of Lake Andes since 1910, departed Tuesday for Pasadena, California to make her home with her son, Rolland and his family. A six O'clock dinner honoring Mrs. Smith was enjoyed by 30 guests at the Episcopal Church parlor last Friday evening.

1961 - 60 years ago

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Peterson August 28th at Amarillo, Texas. She is the former Miss Alice Soulek.

Four high school girls were elected as cheerleaders at Lake Andes Tuesday. They are Mary Wuest, Sherry Sejnoha, Dianne Gorman and Carol Patterson.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Stedronsky and family accompanied her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hassler of Armour to Lake Okoboji for a few days last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Johnson and family of Mitchell were guests in the Vic Hamik home Sunday evening.

1971 - 50 years ago

Weekly temperatures averaged from three degrees below normal in the Southeast to six degrees above normal in the West, according to the South Dakota Crop and Livestock Reporting Service and the National Weather Service. Extremes ranged from 39 degrees at Flandreau on the 27th to 108 degrees at Kennebec on the 23rd. Dry most of the week be widespread show and thundershower activity occurred the morning of the 30th, with early morning amounts of up to two inches recorded.

Winners in the Ladies Golf Tournament held recently at the Randall Hills Country Club were: Championship Flight, Wanda Sly, Platte, first, and Joyce Paauw, Platte, second. First Flight, Terri Schacht, Lake Andes, first; Edith Smith, Wagner, second. Second Flight, Delores Stautenmier, Wagner, first; Thelma Swartz, Wagner, second. Third Flight, Hazel Davies, Wagner, first; Janis Nedved, Wagner Second.
