1931 - 90 years ago

While fishing in the Missouri River near the Hand ranch, Jas. Nichols and Mike and Clyde French hooked a sturgeon that gave them a half hour's excitement before they were able to land it in their boat. It weighed more than 30 lbs. and was nearly five feet in length.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dvorak and daughter Marjean and Joe Dvorak were Yankton business visitors Monday.

Miss Rose Melmer of Chicago is spending her two weeks vacation with her mother, Mrs. M. Melmer, northeast of town.

1951 - 70 years ago

Two officers of the Swedish Air Force and five cadets, visited the Fort Randall Dam at Pickstown last Friday. They landed at the local airport in a twin engine C-47.

July winners in the big fish contest at Leonard's Sporting Goods were as follows: Ray Enos, Russell Varilek, Darrell Hochhalter, Don Marrow, R. J. Tomic and Mrs. Lester Wiele. Each winner received a new reel and line.

Chuck Palmer and family flew to Lemmon, Sunday where they visited relatives. The Palmers made the trip in their new plane.

1961 - 60 years ago

Sandra K. Rist, Sioux Falls; Vincent Archer and Eleanor Affordahl, Ravinia; and James E. Clark and Jerome Ashes of Lake Andes are among the 137 individuals to receive a diploma or degree at the 64th Annual Commencement Exercises held August 10th.

Paul J. Kern, admitted to the South Dakota State Bar Thursday, has joined the law firm.

1971 - 50 years ago

The Sportsman Cafe closed for business Saturday, August 16. Mr. and Mrs. Jones had operated the cafe since April 1964.

Nancy Ellis was honored at a combination birthday and farewell party by a number of her girlfriends from Lake Andes and Pickstown. The party was at the home of Tammy Soulek, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Soulek, August 12 and was a complete surprise to Nancy.
