1931 - 90 years ago

Lake Andes friends will be pleased to learn that Carl, son of Atty. and Mrs. A. J. Cassidy of this city, has made a rapid climb in the newspaper business. After two years of Linotype school and hard work learning the duties of an editor, he purchased the Sun Herald newspaper at Lime Springs.

Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Travnicek and daughter, Ruby, Mrs. Frank Kozak, daughter Marie and son Frank were among the many who enjoyed watermelon at Yankton last Tuesday.

1951 - 70 years ago

A voluntary program of brucellosis vaccination for all heifer calves between four and eight months of age is being considered for Charles Mix County, said Laurel Howe, county extension agent. If it goes through the job will be done this fall.

Emily Soulek, Ravinia, was this week appointed to the Farmers Home Administration committee for Charles Mix County, Otto Hauffe, local supervisor said Tuesday. The appointment was made by E. R. Arneson, State Director.

The interior and exterior of John Linhart's Bar is being repainted in attractive colors this week. "Wingy" and Fred Branch are the decorators.

1961 - 60 years ago

A portion of the Warren (Cy) Elridge ranch near Lake Andes was featured in the Aug. 5th edition of the Dakota Farmer magazine.

Barb Williamson, Lucille Patocka, Cathy Miller, Pat Patocka, Bev Maruska and Jean Pesicka were given awards after completing two weeks of Girl Scout camp near Aberdeen.

Jim Herrold of Lake Andes was among the 155 students at the University of S.D. Vermillion, receiving degrees at the summer commencement Saturday. He was awarded a B.S. in applied science degree from the College of Arts and Sciences.
