1931 - 90 years ago

Noel Donovan and Gordon Pesicka returned the first of the week from their discovery of the west. It is believed the boys saw much country in their months tour that they don't care to see again under like circumstances. Work was impossible to get and hitch-hiking not the most pleasant diversion.

Carl Beckman, northeast of town, has gone to the Red River Valley in northwestern Minnesota to help harvest the big potato crop reported to be developed there.

1951 - 70 years ago

On Saturday, July 22, Krell and Harrold opened their new gasoline station one-half mile south of Lake Andes on the Fort Randall Dam road. The station is equipped with four gas pumps which are arranged in a spacious area for easy access from the highway.

Georgie Mae Schekel was hostess at a personal pre-nuptial shower at her home last Thursday evening, the honored guest being Elaine Padrnos.

A son weighing 8 lbs. 8 oz was born to Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Fitzgerald of Pickstown at the Ft. Randall hospital on July 21.

1961 - 60 years ago

Lake Andes, bass fishing center of the world, is once more giving anglers their thrills as they cast for the scrappy bass which has made the lake national renown. Cliff Anderson Sr., who has operated Anderson's Lodges as a resort on the lake for many years, says the center unit again has an abundant population of bass.

Earl Richter assumed his duties with the Soil Conservation Service at Lake Andes Monday. He is an addition to the staff and will be the work unit conservationist in the Charles Mix District.

1971 - 50 years ago

The Lake Andes Junior Legion baseball club won 9-1 over Armour on the home diamond July 20th. Armour had one run on seven hits and three errors. Russ Wudel was the winning hitter for Armour with two hits. Batting in the losing effort were Ellsworth, Wudel Lang, Knodel.

The first summer session Dean's Honor Roll at the University of South Dakota at Springfield includes 122 students who attained a grade point average of 3.5 or better. Of the 52 students who earned a straight "A" average, three were from Lake Andes. They are Miss Beverly Hedeen, Mrs. Darrel Cummings and Frederick Eldridge.

Stunt Night was held at the Lake Andes Municipal Swimming Pool on Sunday night, July 25th. Stunts included jumps, diving, flips, dis roving, potato races, alligator races and other swimming features.

The office of James Abourezk announced in the Lake Andes Wave this week that the House Appropriations Committee passed a $75,000 appropriation for a resurvey of the Wagner-Lake Andes Irrigation District. This week was $5,000 more than Abourezk requested.
