After nearly three months without a bank the Farmers and Merchants Bank opened up for business last Friday morning with a capitalization of $25,000 and according to the state banking laws governing such an institution. The following are the officers: B. R. Laird, president; H. D. McKinnon, Flandreau, cashier; Frank St. Pierre and Charles Stedronsky Sr., Lake Andes, vice presidents. The directors are H. D. McKinnon, Frank St. Pierre, Charles Stedronsky, Sr. and Joe Lindquist. Miss Tillie Stedronsky is assistant cashier. Other local stockholders are Joe Melmer and J. B. Hovey.

Prof. and Mrs. W. A. Lawrie and children drove to Sheldon, IA. Where Mrs. Larie and smaller children will spend a week with near relatives. They visited the near relatives. They visited the ruins of the two million dollar fire that almost swept from existence the beautiful city of Spencer the day before.

A teenage recreation center opened in the former Beemer Clothing Store building Monday night as a broadened, community backed, area wide recreation program in Lake Andes continued to pick up steam.

Col. B. P. Pendergrass, Omaha District Engineer, presented the Human Goals Achievement Award to Alvin B. Archambeau, Ft. Randall employee, at the Corps of Engineers’ 196th anniversary ceremony in Omaha.
Michael Ackerman, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ackerman of Pickstown, has been named to the honor roll at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City for the past semester. He attained a grade point average of 3.05 or better.
