1961 - 60 years ago

Charles Mix County was pictured as an inspiration to other South Dakota counties in Civil Defense activities by Gov. Archie Gubbrud here Friday night. Addressing the Civil Defense banquet at which 18 persons were awarded certificates as auxiliary police, the governor said, "This is the outstanding county in South Dakota in Civil Defense."

Fifteen seniors, the largest graduation class in Pickstown's history, received their diplomas at commencement ceremonies Friday night. Only one student of the graduating class attended Pickstown school all 13 years.

1951 - 70 years ago

Eighth grade commencement exercises for Charles Mix County were held at Rest Haven last Saturday with Mr. Lloyd Uecker as speaker of the day. Mr. Uecker as speaker of the day. Mr. Uecker is superintendent of Mitchell Public Schools and will be remembered by many as being born and raised near Rest Haven, and attending the Ravinia Public School.

When Stevens Bros. Circus exhibition at the old ball park on Wednesday, it will be a reminiscent of the pilgrimages of Indian princes and potentates with the heradly, pomp and ceremony that marked the travels of these romantic sons and daughters of the far east.

1931 - 90 years ago

Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Tipton and daughter went to Sioux City Sunday to meet their daughter Ruby, who is returning from Washington, D.C. where she completed her course in the dietetics for hospital dieticians in the Walter Reed Memorial Hospital. She graduated from Lake Andes High School in 1925; from Purdue University, Indiana in 1930 with a degree of B.S., Home Economics.

Mrs. Fred Holden and daughter Eleanor, left Sunday on the special train to visit Washington, D.C. The trip will extend over one week and includes several points of historic and national interest. Mr. and Mrs. Terry Holden took them to Bonesteel where they entrained.
