An ambitious program this summer to launch the widened city recreation program under a mayor's committee was planned Friday night. To begin with the committee plans: teenage recreation center and dances; story hours at the library; supervised playground for the small children; sewing club; athletic program; movies on Saturday morning at the theater; and swimming.
Mrs. Archie Patenaude, Ravinia announces the engagement of her daughter, Rhonda Jean Alcorn to Stephen Evans, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hoyle Evans.
Alice Williamson, Vicke Wagner and Wanda Raabe have all earned valedictorian awards at the schools in Lake Andes, Pickstown and Ravinia.

Lawrence Amundson, son of Albert Amundson, was in town last Thursday enroute to Sioux Falls to resume his old job on the classified department of the Argus Leader.
Considerable work has been done the past few weeks on the tourist park at the east edge of town. There is room for much more improving which will be done. Beautiful flower beds, many trees, and a general clean-up of the surroundings have added much attractiveness.
The WAVE believes Mrs. F.K. Engel holds first place for having received the long distance telephone call in Lake Andes. On Mother's Day her daughter, Fara (Mrs. Hal Raymond) of Mission, Texas, 2600 miles distant, held a three minute conversation with her mother. The message had to be replayed a dozen times, but when proper connection was made the conversation as distinct as though the ladies were in the same room.

Nine 4-H club barrows, averaging 46 pounds, were weighed in at the county court yard at Lake Andes. Members weighing in pigs are Harlan Greguson, Duroc; Bob Wuest, Duroc; William Wuest, Duroc; Floyd Thompson, Spotted Poland; Kenneth McBride, Poland; Glen Mollett, Spotted Poland; Rex Paulsen, Hampshire, The winning boss in the race to see who can put the most gain and smoothest finish will be selected according to rate of gain, cost of gain, completeness of record, looks and showing ring winnings.
Charles Mallory is on the sick list again this week having a relapse of the flu and pneumonia.
