1971 - 50 Years Ago

St. Mark's Catholic Church was the setting April 17, 1971 for the marriage of Miss Cheryl Kaye Stedronsky and Mr. John F. Kirwan. Father Stephen Schreder officiated at the double ring ceremony. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Russel Stedronsky of Lake Andes and Mrs. Melvin Kirwan and the late Mr. Kirwan of Bristow, NE.

Miss Denise Solko, daughter of Mrs. Alice Solko received a $300 scholarship from the Northwestern National Bank of Sioux Falls for the 1971-72 school year.

1961- 60 Years Ago

Marcia Renquist and Phillip Kirwan have been named to represent Pickstown High School at Girls State and Boys State respectively.

Alice Williamson, a senior, was the only Lake Andes high school student named to the all "A" honor roll of the past six weeks.

Paul Murray, vocation agriculture teacher at Lake Andes High School, said the FFA members have turned out 250 concrete hog troughs since they started making them last October and so far have been unable to keep up with the demand.

A dinner, a dance, and drive in movie will form the entertainment for Lake Andes high school junior and seniors at the annual banquet and prom to be held May 3.

1951 - 70 Years Ago

Senator Case of South Dakota said recently that the office of education has approved participation by the army engineers in school construction at Lake Andes.

Alice Leslie has been chosen to represent Lake Andes High School at Girls State to be held in Mitchell. Alice is sponsored by the Lake Andes Civic Club.

Mavis Barkley, Beverly Johnson, Margaret Benson, Elaine Sorenson and Donald Schwartz of the East Lake Andes Luther League were guests of the Lutheran Students Association at Augustana College in Sioux Falls Sunday.

1931 - 90 Years Ago

The Lake Andes High School band journeyed to Springfield Tuesday afternoon where they participated in the Class B band section of the district music contest, placing second.

Miss Valda Tucker, daughter of Editor and Mrs. Bert Tucker of the Geddes News, winner of the state declamatory contest, is the only student in the state who has won two first in high school dramatics.

Many towns are sponsoring home baseball teams. Lake Andes, Tyndall, Tripp and probably Platte and Wagner will get the bug. Ninety percent of the professional baseball players come from such teams.
