1971 - 50 Years Ago

The Outlaw No. 2 Admiral bowling team from Lake Andes took number one spot in the State Women's Bowling Tournament. The team rolled a 2998 to edge out Exon Land Title Company, also from Lake Andes, who held the position since the opening weekend four weeks ago, with 2979.

Lyle Solko, a senior at Andes Central High School, was accepted at the School of Pharmacy at the South Dakota State University in Brookings.

1961- 60 Years Ago

A daughter weighing 8 lbs., 8 ozs. was born on April 14 at Winner to Mr. and Mrs. Lary Sejnoha of Winner, formerly of Lake Andes.

The Lake Andes Farmers Coop Company will sponsor again a skip day trip to Minneapollis for the Lake Andes High School Seniors.

Lake Andes finished second behind Platte in the Ft. Randall grade school declamatory contest held Friday in the Lake Andes Auditorium. Platte scored 34 points to 24 for Lake Andes. Geddes finished a solid third with 22. Other schools participating were Armour, Pickstown, Corisca, Ravinia and Delmont.

1951 - 70 Years Ago

Unnofficial returns of the city election last Tuesday, in which about 500 votes were cast, show that Robert F. Buche was elected mayor of Lake Andes by a majority of 112 votes. He received a total of 305 votes to 193 for William E. Wuest.

R. O. Swanson of Lake Andes has been elected to membership in the American Aberdeen-Angus Breeder's Association, secretary Frank Richards announced.

A daughter weighing 8 lbs. 6 ozs. was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Matuska of Armour on April 4 at the Armour Memorial Hospital.

The interior of the Commercial State Bank received a new coat of paint last week, and the artists can be congratulated on a fine job.

1931 - 90 Years Ago

The City election held Tuesday was not as spirited as many in the past, although considerable interest was shown in the mayorality race between F. K. Engel and Charles Stedronsky Jr., the latter winning by a vote of 178 to 104.

Lake Andes friends will be pleased to know that Ryal Miller of Sioux City, former Lake Andes man, was in an airplane accident at Detroit, last Thursday and was not seriously hurt.

The high school band, under the direction of Prof. Laurie, made a remarkable showing by winning second place in the contest. This band is just over a year old and had to compete against schools with much larger enrollment.
