1961- 60 Years Ago

Pickstown's Boy Scout Troop 33 carried home highest honors at the Ree District Dakota Centenial Scout-o-rama in Mitchell's Corn Palace. The Scouts received the Presidents Award, a red white and blue ribbon. Their theme was pioneering and they scored 97 out of a possible 100 points.

Dale Svatos, Lake Andes, was awarded the bid for the frame dwelling located at the city airport at a special meeting of the city council Monday night.

Pickstown High School musicians swept top honors in Class "C" at the music contest in Mitchell, receiving superior ratings in girls glee, boys glee and band, and an excellent rating in mixed chorus.

1951 - 70 Years Ago

George Padrnos, athletic director and coach of the Lake Andes Eagles for the past three years, and one of the most successful mentors in South Dakota's coaching circle, has decided to abandon the coaching career to enter the School of Law at the University of South Dakota in June.

The Lake Andes Music Department made a perfect score in the State Regional Music Contest held in Mitchell. Four large ensembles were entered in class B competition and each won a superior rating.

At the last regular session of the City Council, Mayor Stedronsky appointed Ray Lawler to the city police force, and upon voting, the council member unanimously accepted Mr. Lawler's application as a member of the force.

1931 - 90 Years Ago

At the district spelling contest held at the Court House Saturday, Elva Me Coffman, member of the 7th grade of Lake Andes won first place. Second place was won by Bernadine Sejnoha, Goose Lake No. 2; Third place to Leona Carda, White Swan No. 1; Fourth place to Adolph Sejnoha, Goose Lake No. 2; Fifth place to Ethel Marelires, White Swan No. 3; and Marv Steensland and Elaine Anderson, Lake Andes Tied for sixth place.

Dorothy Dermody was chosen carnival queen of the high school at the carnival last Thursday by a margin of 100 votes.

The Junior Carnival was a financial success due largely to the contributions of many business men of Lake Andes.
