A multi-purpose, county - wide Civil Defense radio system that would connect all corners of Charles Mix County on a minutes notice was planned by governing bodies in Lake Andes Friday night. The system, which would have its own frequency, would co-ordinate fire, police and highway engineer activities, provide severe weather warnings and unite the county for action in case of disaster.
There is a possibility that Lake Andes may be used as a regulating reservoir to hold water for the proposed Wagner unite irrigation project, under a 'plan report' not due for final release for two years.
The local Welfare office is now observing a five day work week and will be closed on Saturday morning, Welfare Director Roger Kasa announced.

First Lieutenant Mahlon M. Newkirk, son of Mrs. Florence Newkirk of Lake Andes, recently received the Distinguished Flying Cross, which was presented to him by Col. Richard H. Carmichael, commander of the 98th Bombardment Group
The High School vocal department and band was present their spring concert in the high school auditorium next Sunday.
An election of officers took place at the baseball meeting with the following results: Roy Mundon president; Jesse Maruska secretary-treasurer: Ed Carda, vice president; George Kramer team manager; Art Breen, business manager. Vern Johnson was appointed assistant team manager and Ed Carda assistant business manager.

Mr. and Mrs .John Linhart had the following as dinner guests Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kostroun, Mrs. James Nohava, sons Lloyd and Jimmy and Mrs. Beesh of Tabor and Mrs. Anna Kaiser and family and the Frank Novek family.
The pupils absent from the freshmen class on account of bad roads were Eloise and William Wuest, Jaraslav Kisley and Anna Hylland.
Miss Carmine Brownlee, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Brownlee, was united in marriage to P.N. Bruggett at Mission Hill March 17. The bride is home with her parents for the present until they find a suitable apartment in Sioux Falls where Mr. Bruggett is engaged as an electrician.
