1971 - 50 Years Ago

Joe LaBarge, Scott Huber and Mike Pfeffer represent Andes Central at the Boys State meeting.

Linad Vacek, Anne Gall and Mary Ellen Maruska have been chosen to represent Andes Central High School at the Girls State meeting in Mitchell.

Miss June Edwards, Pickstown, was elected State Future Homemakers of America secretary-treasurer and Region VI chairman at the regional meeting held at Chamberlain.

The area Band Festival committee is proud to announce that Mr. Robert King of Arlington, will be the guest conductor for this years festival. Mr. King received his Bachelors of Arts Degree from Dakota State College and has done graduate work at the South Dakota State University and Vander Cook College of Music in Chicago.

Two teenage girls were injured in a motor cycle-car collision on Main Street about 5:20 p.m. Saturday, afternoon, March 27th.

Lana Palmer, driver of the cycle and passenger Connie Schult were taken to the Douglas County Memorial Hospital.

The Junior class play cast is now completing the final week of the three-week rehearsal schedule for "Deadly Ernest"

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dowell are parents of a baby boy born at the Armour hospital.

Several outstanding acts vied for top spots in the March of Dimes Talent Contest at the Lake Andes High School Auditorium. Some 40 contestants entered in junior, high school and adults divisions performed before an audience of over 200.

Two pupils of Goose Lake School 25, Ronald Nelson, first grade and Donald Nelson, second grade, earned a chance to advance to the county spelling contest in Lake Andes by placing first in their classes at a district contest Friday.

Vying with incumbent Russell Stedronsky for Mayor is Dr. G. O. Raile. Stedronsky has served as the city's chief executive for two terms.

1951 - 70 Years Ago

Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Beemer and family were guests in the Melvin Beemer home on Easter Sunday.

Miss June Wheeler who attends SSTC at Springfield, spent Easter vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs Henry Wheeler and family.

Cordelia Engel, formerly of Lake Andes and Claude W. Lindsay of Cottage Grove were married Saturday, March 17 at 10:30 in Eugene, Ore.

A Daughter, weighing 4 lb. 14 1/2 ozs. was born at the Ft. Randall Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Massonka.

The Misses Lois McCabe and June Johnson spent the Easter Holidays visiting friends in Denver. Herb Engel assisting.

1931 - 90 Years Ago

Ambrose (Fat) Griffith completed negotiations this week whereby he has taken a five year lease on the former Dummler hotel and cafe and expects to open for business next Sunday under the name of 'Griff's Hotel and Coffee Shop'.

Sheriff Coles was confined to his bed a couple of days with lumbago. He contends that wrestling with criminals is a pic counter job compared to the steady tussel lumbago furnishes.

Nearly a half inch of rain Wednesday evening and night added an extra grin on everyone's face in the locality.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Payer of Greenwood were Sunday guests of the former's brother, Peter Payer and family.
