1971 - 50 Years Ago

The Andes Central Eagles rated fourth in the South Dakota State B basketball tournament held in Sioux Falls last week.

Miss Sharon Merkwan, Lake Andes is named to the honor roll at Augustana College, Sioux Falls. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Merkwan.

Miss Barbara Cecilia Kozak became the bride of Mr. H. Terry Crisp at a ceremony Feb. 1 at St. Mark's Catholic Rectory. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kozak and Mr. Henry Crisp, all of Lake Andes.

1961 - 60 Years Ago

Lee Svatos and Mary Wuest have been selected to represent Lake Andes high school at the annual Boys State and Girls State respectively. Named alternates are Jerry Novotny and Sherry Sejnoha.

Mrs. Dave Corrington was named president of the Civic Club at their Monday night meeting at the high school. She succeeds Mrs. Paul Kern.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bud Brooks March 10 at the Wagner hospital. He weighed 7 lbs. and 15 oz. and is named James Jay.

Mrs. Robert Schultz and baby son, Patrick Joseph returned home Friday from the Wagner hospital.

1951 - 70 Years Ago

Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Had celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, March 6. They were entertained at the T. E. Holden Home where Chef Ted prepared and served a 6 o’clock dinner to ten guests.

Young Dick Padrnos wound up his prep career with a brilliant last quarter effort to reward his happy Lake Andes mates a well earned third place triumph over Ethan, 56-55, in last Saturday night’s preliminary.

Miss Donna Minahan was honored at a miscellaneous bridal shower held in the Episcopal Church parlor last Monday evening. She will be married to Mr. Robert Schultz on Monday, March 26.

Dale Newman and Bud Brooks were among those from here who went to Sioux Falls to take their Army physical examinations last Monday.

1931 - 90 Years Ago

The Men’s “500” Club was entertainment at the R. C. Braidwood home on Thursday. Leo Kaiser received the prize for high score and Paul Simmons the low score.

Mrs. William Page spent from Wednesday until Saturday at Marion visiting her friend, Mrs. Charles Robinson.

Johnnie Melmer and Guy Parker attended the Caterpillar Tractor School at Sioux Falls last week.

Herbert Engel has installed an expensive and up-to-date Frigidaire cooling equipment in his meat market.

Mrs. Mattie Thompson accompanied Rev. E. Claude Smith and family to the Thos. Thompson home where they were guests to dinner and a delightful evening.
