1971 - 50 Years Ago

The Andes Central Eagles are the 1971 Region VII champions. They earned a berth in the State B Tournament by defeating White River and Dakota Christian in regional play at Wagner last week.

Charles Mix County News-Miss Roberta Hysell and Richard Strehlow spoke their marriage vows at a mass February 19 at St. Ann's Catholic Church.

The following was reported by the Selective Service, Local Board No. 45, Charles Mix County.

Enlisting in the Army during the month of February were David L. Sparks, Army; Francis H. Stricker and Glenfore L. Sully both of Wagner, in the Marine Corps. There was one voluntary induction, Randy G Graves of Platte into the Army.

1961 - 60 Years Ago

Those making the honor roll at the Lake Andes High School are Marie Skotvold, Alice Williamson, Dick Mead, Dennis Rolston, Gary Krell, Carol Sejnoha, Gary Carda, Arnold Soulek, Mary Wuest, Janet Aarhus, Bonnie Morken, Steve Verba and Fred Eldridge.

The L. A. Lakers donated $50 for the 4-H Center being constructed west of the school building.

Heavy snow falls over the weekend dumped a 16-inch blanket over the area, soaking the ground with more than an inch of precipitation.

Six high school and 10th grade school teachers were re-elected by the Board of education at its March meeting.

1951 - 70 Years Ago

Golden Wedding anniversary congratulations were extended to Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Kihschenmann at an open house held in the Presbyterian Church parlors Sunday.

Cpt. Alvin Patocka, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Patocka of Lake Andes, was recently transferred to the Southwestern Command and assigned to Camp Osaka in Southern Japan.

Mr. and Mrs. George Svatos and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Svatos spent the last weekend in Sioux City.

Ed Dvorak has accepted the position as janitor of the local school and commenced the job the first of March. Ed recently resigned as manager of the L. A. Farmer’s Coop.

1931 - 90 Years Ago

Mrs. Jas. Minhan and son drove to Pierre Saturday to be with her husband who is a representative from this country in the legislature, during the last week of the session.

Louis L. Carda, who has farmed several years on Ed Vandall’s farm three miles east of town, has moved to the Harry Hardman farm near Rest Haven.

Ruth Clark and Meletha Hinzman received the highest averages of the junior class, both having 96.

Mrs. Mary Melmer accompanied G. F. Buche and associates to Chicago last week and will spend several days there as a guest of her daughter, Rose Melmer.
