1971 - 50 Years Ago

William Patocka, a 1969 graduate of Andes Central High School, has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll at Southern State College.

Miss Rita Solko received the first place trophy in the youth food division of the Mid-Winter Fair here last month and was named Miss Cooking Princess. Rita won blue ribbons for her spice cake and sweet rolls; red ribbons for her drop cookies and white bread; and a yellow ribbon for her fruit bread.

Rev. Norman Fowler has resigned his position as chairman of the Lake Andes Housing and Redeveloped Commission effective the end of February.

Rev. Fowler said, "I had hoped to stay on the commission until the houses were finished and occupied, but my present health conditions will not allow it. I am sorry that I cannot finish out my term, for this is a project in which I have been intensely interested. I hope that in the service that I have rendered, I have helped the City of Lake Andes in a small way, and that I have fulfilled part of my civic responsibility as a citizen "

The council has accepted Rev. Fowlers resignation but announced they have not named his successor.

1961 - 60 Years Ago

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kramer Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kern Jr. became the parents of a daughter Feb. 14 A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Svatos at the Platte Hospital Feb. 25.

Manager Dean Reif and Jim Mitchell are prepared to open the 3-man L. A. office of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. Harold Johnson is the combination man and will be responsible for installation and maintenance.

Ed Jones, Chairman of the Fish Days committee announced his groups’ plans for the crop of whiskers among the men of Lake Andes as part of the Dakota Territorial Centennial in connection with the annual Fish Days.

1951 - 70 Years Ago

The Lake Andes Eagles, ranked No. 1 in the final A.P. cage poll, came through with a 69-47 victory over the Ravinia Bears. These flashy Eagles rolled up their 26th straight victory without a blemish in winning the district title.

Four L. A. players were named to the All-District 26 “Dream Team”. They are Maurice Nielsen, Bob Brooks, Dick Padrnos and Wayne Stedronsky.

A son weighing 8 lbs. 9 oz. was born to Mr. and Mrs. Bud Rowe of Lake Andes at the Ft. Randall hospital on Feb. 26.

1931 - 90 Years Ago

Fe. 26nd a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jones. Feb. 19 a daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Pederson, and Feb. 16 a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Luther J. Miley.

Marriage licenses issued were to Dennis Haupapa, Greenwood and Lizzie Drapeau, Lake Andes; Frank Haney and Florence Beem, Fairfax; Paul Kasulka and Rose Rokusek, Lake Andes.

Mr. and Mrs. George Miller and grandchildren, Yvonne and Richard Novak of Geddes, visted in the Kaiser and Linhart homes on Sunday. Einar McGhee and had the misfortune to have his nose broken in two places and was taken to Geddes to have it set. One of the Exon boys struck him in the face with a shinney stick while playing a game of shinney at school.
