10 YEARS AGO

2015

With the $7,500 award Wellmark presented the City of Lake Andes with, they officially finished building the playset portion of the new park.

The Class of 1959 gathered at the Lakeside Motel for a reunion. Class members present were Ray and Bonnie Soukup, Lee Bridge, Dorothy Walker, Jack Carr, Carol Durham, and Joyce Sanders.

Dangel boys, Bradley and Luke, impressed the judges at the South Dakota State Fair with the rabbits they presented in the Youth Open Show. Bradley received Best of Breed for his Mini Lop Junior Buck and Best of Breed with his Polish Junior Doe. The Junior Doe went on to be the Best of Show and won the Youth Show. This Doe also won Best of Breed in the Open Carrier Show and Best of Opposite in the Youth Jackpot Show.

The LA A.B.A.T.E Chapter went on a cancer run to raise money for the local towns of Lake Andes, Platte and Wagner.

20 YEARS AGO

2005

Candidates for the 2005 Homecoming King and Queen at Andes Central were: Logan Hoilien, Jessica Walder, Tina Gau, and Robert Bennett.

Robert Cournoyer defeated his opponent, Leo O’Connor by a vote of 507-459 and assumed the position as Chairman of the Yankton Sioux Tribe following the General Election. Lisa Arrow was the winner for secretary defeating Yvonne Stricker 604-355 and John W. Sully Sr. defeated Frances “Punchy” Hart 585-376 for the treasurer’s position.

2005 Fish Days, Lil’ Miss Fishy Sydney Myears and Fish Days Queen Bobbi Jean Hakl represented Lake Andes in the 2005 Labor Day Parade in Wagner.

A son was born to Jenna Dvorak and Michael Wagner.

Allen and Tanya Tronvold announced the birth of their daughter.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Rick Hazuka.

Susan Oberbroekling and Neal Anderson were wed. Jane Frager and Mike Rhoades exchanged vows.

55 YEARS AGO

1970

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Loren Olson.

Neil Zachariasen and Rita Peschek were crowned Homecoming King and Queen.

The Eagles downed the highly rated Parkston Trojans 12-0.

60 YEARS AGO

1965

A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Carda.
