Erica Kitchenmaster and Mikayla Petsche of Andes Central School attended Girls State Wollman’s Andes Pharmacy donated shelves to Andes Central Elementary for a new book display.
In honor of their 75th anniversary, Wellmark presented a $7,500 award to the City of Lake Andes for a new park to be installed at the Lake Front Park.

Kristen Dvorak was a medal finisher in the 2005 Pike Peak Ascent. Kristen placed 26th out of 84 participants in the women’s 30-40 age group and 39th of 634 overall in the women’s division.
Samantha Wade, Lake Andes, won two titles at the River Boat Days S.D. State Arm Wrestling Championship.
High School students at Andes Central will now be able to earn college credits in English, Math and Psychology through a new pilot program forged by the school and Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell.

Kevin and Jolynn Tronvold announced the arrival of their son.
The South Dakota Association for Career and Technical Education presented six scholarships in the amount of $500 each. Among the recipients was Suzanne Parker, daughter of Ray and Mary Jo Parker, of Lake Andes.

Charles Mix County was one in nineteen South Dakota counties to be eligible for emergency aid through Farmers Home Administration due to drought conditions.
Ejner Frandsen, Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge employee, received a special achievement certificate and a $250 cash award for outstanding work performance.

A food stamp program starting in October was approved by the Charles Mix County Commission.
The Housing Authority was finally at the point where eighteen low rent houses were to be built.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dan Pipes.

1960
Kentucky Blue Grass became a crop worth thousands of dollars to South Dakota farmers. About 224,000 bushels of the seed was produced bringing $5.25 per hundred pounds. The Commodity Credit Corporation’s support prices were wheat $2.03, rye $1.26, barley $1.12, oats .64 cents and sorghum $1.96 cwt. No corn price was listed due to the war causing a shortage of steel and storage space.
