10 YEARS AGO

2015

The Charles Mix County Horse Show was held with several 4-Hers in participation receiving high championship titles and various ribbons. Western Showmanship Grand Champions: Sadie Eitemiller, Anna Hawkins and Owen Eitemiller. Grand Champion Showman Winners: Bobbi Jo Soukup, Rose Eitemiller and Summer Beeson. Reserve Champion Showman Winners: Darby Knoll, Anna Hawkins and Shada Beeson.

Cpl. Loren Abdalla was honored with a sacred ceremony by the Yankton Sioux Tribe.

20 YEARS AGO

2005

The Reverend Nancy R. Kapp was pastor of the First Presbyterian and First Lutheran Churches in Lake Andes. The 40th annual Kisley family reunion was held at the Lake Andes Community Center with fifty in attendance.

Memories were shared at the Ravinia School Monument Dedication.

45 YEARS AGO

1980

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Geidd celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary and Mr. and Mrs. David Steel celebrated their 25th. Chairman Baker and Rick Hazuka were united in marriage.

50 YEARS AGO

1975

Bass Beach, southern South Dakota’s best-known resort since 1920 in Lake Andes, passed into history as it’s last building, a dome topped dance hall, was sold at auction.

Tammy Soulek attended the National Future Homemakers of America Convention in Washington, D.C.

An electronic scoreboard was installed at the baseball park. The elementary school building was nearing completion.

60 YEARS AGO

1965

Subscriptions to the Wave were $3.00 and Ervin Palmer was the publisher.

Nick’s Supermarket celebrated their 8th anniversary.

Victoria Hamik became engaged to Gene Boelter.

70 YEARS AGO

1955

A move started to consolidate the telephone exchanges in the towns of Wagner, Lake Andes, Pickstown, Ravinia, Marty and Dante with Toll free calls for over 1,600 phone users.

A gallon of farm white paint sold for $3.19 at Nelson Brothers Hardware.

80 YEARS AGO

1945

M.E. McEntaffer, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.L. McEntaffer, became the new manager of the Buches Store.

Items in the County Budget included: Sheriff salaries - $1,200; board and care of prisoners - $700; care of poor $15,000; care of insane - $7,500.

90 YEARS AGO

1935

The population of Charles Mix County decreased 2,199 between 1930-1935 due to failure of crops and grasshoppers. Work shirts at Buche’s were 59 cents; work socks - 2 pairs for 25 cents; Cracker Jacks with prizes - 3 packages for 10 cents; 8 ounce ring of bologna for 15 cents.
