10 YEARS AGO

2015

The Wagner Community School held their graduation for the Class of 2015. The Class of 2015 consisted of 31 seniors. Their Class Motto was, “Behind us are memories, beside us are friends, before us are dreams.” Their Class Flower was an Enchantment Lily, and their Class Colors were red, white and black.

Governor Dennis Daugaard presented Hannah Fleming with a Certificate of Recognition for Academic Excellence.

A devastating EF-2 tornado formed 3 miles east of Wagner and traveled across 16 miles of ground only damaging trees before while in Charles Mix County. It moved into Douglas County and struck Delmont resulting in nine people injured and twenty buildings damaged. The Zion Lutheran Church had lost its roof, stained glass windows, and pipe organ.

20 YEARS AGO

2005

The Wagner High School Class of 2005 held their graduation at the Wagner School Gymnasium. Their class consisted of 36 seniors. Their Class Motto was, “Memories make us who we are; dreams make us who we will become.” Their Class Flower was a Gerber Daisy, and their Class Colors were red and silver.

30 YEARS AGO

1995

Aaron Podzimek and Heidi Coleman were crowned Prince and Princess at the Wagner Community School Prom and reigning as King and Queen were Jamie Schroeder and Rhiana Payer.

Jennifer Donnell and Brad Lhotak announced their engagement.

Kerry Swatek received the John Philip Sousa music award. Grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremonies were held at Alice’s Variety in Wagner.

45 YEARS AGO

1980

The Thomas Kocer Jr. family was selected as Family of the Year on the state level during the Knights of Columbus convention held in Spearfish.

Kelly Kiser and Daylene Newman were selected to be state finalist in the 1980 Miss United Teenager Pageant.

70 YEARS AGO

1955

Showing at Elbs Theatre was “The Lone Gun” and “The Lawless Rider.”

Phyllis Stork was a student nurse at Aberdeen. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Koupal.

92 YEARS AGO

1933

43 seniors graduated from Wagner Community School. Honor Salutatorian was Mamie Bucholz and valedictorian was Esther Jensen.

A dam was completed at Wagner, the upper part of the dam was covered with rock which made it quite solid. About three feet of water in the lake and one good rain would give it plenty of water for swimming and enough for a swarm of fish. It is now known today as “Lake Wagner.”

Velda Fern Martin and Tom Kucera exchanged vows.
