The Lake Andes Park Project CMCLRO announced that the City of Lake Andes was able to fund the remaining amount needed for the Lake Front Park.

Dean and Marjalie Swanson celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Local students named to the DWU Dean’s List were DiMera Dvorak, Nicole Dvorak, Kelsey Kniffen, Allison Cimpl, and Justine Soukup.

Local students named to the USD Dean’s List included Gina Soukup, Alaina Cuka, Katie Barnett, Kitty Juffer, Tristen Scherr, Brooke Doty, Mikaela Anderson, and Dawn Andersh.

2005

Joseph Matuska of Lake Andes was named to the Dean’s List at South Dakota Tech for the 2004 Fall semester.

The Andes Central wrestlers took on Mt. Vernon-Plankinton and were on the bottom side of a 49-18 final score. Robert Bennett at 140 pinned his opponent in 1:43 and Logan Svatos at 215 pinned his opposition in 4:22. Will Bennett also picked up a win for Andes Central with a forfeit at 275.

1985

Knights of Columbus Council #5695, sponsored the local free throw contest. Winners of 11 year old girls: 1st Jolynn Bechen, 2nd Cindy Fandsen; 12 year old girls: 1st Lana Gravatt, 2nd Nicki Shinkle, 3rd Robin Spicer; 13 year old girls: 1st Jenny Evans, 2nd Tina Pelton, 3rd Renae Melmer; 14 year old girls: 1st Jodi Pipes, 2nd Diane Ronfeldt; 11 year old boys: 1st Jim Pelton, 2nd Chad Svatos, 3rd Greg Simmermon; 12 year old boys: 1st Steve Morgan, 2nd Brad Bechen, 3rd Travis Schacht; 13 year old boys: 1st Chris Person, 2nd Glen Elmers, 3rd Rick Herrold; 14 year old boys: 1st Michael Simmermon and 2nd Roger Frankenstein.

1975

Roxanne Adam was chosen first place in the local High School oratorical contest. The local event was sponsored annually by Fort Randall – Castle Post 282. Rebecca Adam was the only other contestant and was the runner up.

The Eagles 32-18 dual meet victory over Platte was the first SESD conference dual meet win for the Eagles since February 1971.

60 Years Ago

1965

The city’s 23,000-pound road maintainer broke through the ice into four feet of water while removing snow from the surface of Lake Andes. The snow was being removed because the oxygen content was getting low and endangering the fish. No injuries were incurred in the mishap, although Dale Bradley fell into the lake while helping to remove the maintainer.
