10 Years Ago – 2014

Andes Central Elementary presented their Christmas program.

The South- Cent ra l A.B.A.T.E chapter donated proceeds from their poker run to the Wagner Cancer Funds.

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members competed at District STAR events. Matthew Bryant of Andes Central was named a District officer (Chairperson of Recreation) for the 2015-2016 year.

US Attorney General, Brendan Johnson, spoke to high school students in both Lake Andes and Wagner about the top six areas of his work as attorney general.

Howard Valandra from the Office of Special Trustee spoke to the Andes Central senior government class.

20 Years Ago – 2004

Amber Nelson, along with her husband, Jim, were the new owners of the Sunset Casino in Lake Andes. The couple purchased the business from Richard Bruner and took ownership November 20th.

Aaron Fobb, Krista Neiss, Faye Kazena, and Amelia Primeaux were Marty Middle School Students of the Month for November.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Northwestern Public Service donated to the Jaws of Life.

Andes Central competed in the Plankinton wrestling tournament. Greg Nielsen placed third and BJ Long placed fourth.

40 Years Ago – 1984

Grand opening of the Lake Andes Farmers Co-op Service was held on December 27th.

The Eagle wrestlers battled the Bon Homme Cavaliers to a 45-19 defeat. The Eagles won both B matches with Roger Melmer pinning Steve Kostal in 55 seconds and Greg Spawn pinning Darik Modenegger in 3:52.

The Eagle wrestlers traveled to White Lake for the White Lake wrestling tournament. Andesmanagedfour fourth place winners with Ian Van Slyke, Ray Flying Hawk, Arthur Medicine Horn, and Shane Sejnoha.

The Lake Andes Post Office welcomed Judie M. Dilts, who was reinstated to the Postal Service. Her title is part-time flex clerk. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Carda of Lake Andes.

50 Years Ago – 1974

Navy Ensign Brian E. Koenig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. Koenig, made his first solo flight in a Navy Aircraft at Pensacola, Florida.

60 Years Ago – 1964

Marlene Brooks was appointed City Assessor.

New officers for the upcoming year were elected by the Lake Andes Chamber of Commerce at their regular meeting. Dwight Herrold was elected President; Vic Hamil, Vice-President; and Harriet Holcomb, Secretary.

Mrs. Pat Anderson was notified that her humorous short story. “The Milk of Human Kindness, by the Quart,” was accepted and published by Coronet Magazine.

70 Years Ago – 1954

Louise Jensen and Donald Zeisler married December 22.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Beemer Christmas Day.
