10 Years Ago – 2014

Jarol Martin, magician, made an appearance at the Fort Randall Casino.

Derica Johnson, a FCCLA member of the Andes Central chapter helped with the Trick and Read event at the Lake Andes Carnegie Public Library.

Students at the Andes Central School held a benefit for Jeff Waldner with matching funds provided from Thrivent.

Cybil Chytka was chosen by the Yankton Sioux Tribe to advance in the national essay contest for the 2014 White House Tribal Conference.

The Andes Central volleyball team held their annual parents’ night. Seniors honored were Cybil Chykta, Tearanie Stotz, Rebecca Lehmann, Payton Johanneson, Brooke Deurmier, and Ashley Kirkpatrick.

20 Years Ago – 2004

Carol Kniffen retained her position as Charles Mix County Treasurer. Kniffen had served as County Treasurer for the past 20 years.

Katie Gall was selected as the Andes Central DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) candidate.

October star students of the month were: Casey Gau, Advanced Biology and Art; Joseph Svatos, Physical Science and English 9; Keshia Bruguier, Biology and Spanish II; Jessica Waldner, German and Advanced Algebra; Mike Svatos, Civics and Math; Santana Gravatt, English 12 and Sociology; Ryan Cooney, Pre-Algebra and 7th Life Science; Tesia Kiyukan, Algebra and 8th American History.

30 Years Ago – 1994

AndesCentralHighSchool vocalists Samantha Dion, Kara Pfeffer, Aaron Matson, and David Petrik participated in the 41st annual All State Chorus held in Rapid City.

40 Years Ago – 1984

Andes Central girls’ basketball downed the Tripp Wildcats 61-34.

It took an overtime period to push a slow-paced Eagles team over Wagner Red Raiders 47-42 with a victory.

50 Years Ago – 1974

The Lady Eagles defeated Scotland 25-20 and Burke 35-24.

Airman First Class Steven J. Patocka arrived for duty at Bitiburg AB, Germany. He was the son of Mrs. Roy Patocka.

70 Years Ago – 1954

Tom Brokow won first place in the Pickstown High School declamation elimination contest.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Wade on November 12th.

Sugar was 89¢ for a 10-pound bag; steak was 59¢ per pound; and apples were 10¢ a pound.

Contractors on the Fort Randall Dam project reduced their forces to five working days a week.

80 Years Ago – 1944

A wedding dance honoring Mary Nedved and Raymond Svatos was held in the Community Hall.

William Carda won second place in the corn picking contest in Wagner.

90 Years Ago – 1934 Mrs. Anna Travnicek purchased the Elite Café.
