PFC Patrick J. Schultz, training in diesel mechanics, was stationed in Baumholclu, Germany.

Brennan Thomas was born to Tom and Mary Westendorf.

The federal price support for wool was $1.23 per pound.

1970 - 50 Years Ago

W. Clarke Hopkins retired from the postal service after nearly 34 years of serving.

Misty Lee was born to Mr and Mrs. Ronald G. Svatos.

A wounded immature bald eagle was being cared for at the Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge. He was found by Richard Hermanek and John Flaming in a corn field west of Tripp.

1960 60 Years Ago

Lake Andes high school seniors posted the highest score in a wide area in the Air Force Aptitude Test. Ernest Hamik attained the highest possible mark of 95.

A day long snowstorm dumped 14 inches on the area and temperatures were below zero.

1950 - 70 Years Ago

Over 1600 ducks and 37 geese were banded at the Lake Andes fish hatchery to determine their flyways.

A grand opening was held for Andes Drug, the Rexall Store.

Beverly Hedeen was named in Who's Who on American University's and Campuses.

1940 - 80 Years Ago

Dr. J.C. Ash, local physician, was also a writer of poetry. As a holiday gift to friends and relatives he had a few poems put into a booklet.

A two day training school in the making of mattresses was held in Lake Andes. Orders for 715 mattresses were on file and work was to begin as soon as materials arrived.

1930 - 90 Years Ago

A local chicken buyer was arrested for stealing about 225 chickens. Mr. and Mrs. George Sterba identified them as theirs because one was a pet hen, one rooster had a cross bill and one had been bitten on the neck by a rat. When Deputy Sheriff Buzz Fuller took the chickens to the Sherba's chicken house, they immediately went to their roosting places.
