10 Years Ago – 2014
The Wagner Alco location closed after the Alco Store company filed bankruptcy.
R.F. Buche challenged his Buche Food team members to raise funds for Wagner’s breast cancer organization. After raising a total of $6,909 and beating last year’s total, R.F. dressed up in a pink bathing suit and sat in a dunk tank at each location to raise additional money.
20 Years Ago – 2004
A fire at the Randall Hotel apartment building claimed the lives of two Lake Andes residents. Lake Andes, Ravinia, Wagner, and Armour Fire Departments were called to the fire.
The 2004 race season came to a close for Presley Bott after having a great season. She accomplished her goal of finishing in the top five in all of her racing classes.
Randy Vesely of Andes State Bank and Charlotte Pesicka attended the 43rd Economics Seminar for Young Adults.
Andes Central bus drivers were recognized for all of their contributions to the school and students. They included Larry Johnson, Tim Mumm, Mary Soulek, Harry Ingals, Don Gasper, and Bob Breen.
Membership awards were presented to several members of the Charles-Mix County Home Life Clubs. France Jones and Agnes Engel of Lake Andes were presented with 60-year awards and Mayme Crisman of Wagner was presented with a 40-year award.
40 Years Ago – 1984
The Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge announced that a boat ramp and parking facilities are now available for use by the public. The area was located south of the south dike of Lake Andes.
50 Years Ago – 1974
Kay Ann Svatos and Dennis Hubers exchanged vows on October 19th.
60 Years Ago – 1964
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bures of Ravinia were the proud parents of a baby girl born on October 21.
70 Years Ago – 1954
The climax of the homecoming program came with the crowning of the King and Queen of Lakota Day, Dennis Martin and Vivian Pick, followed by the pep rally and snake dance through Main Street.
Maurine Dufrain and George Cahoy exchanged vows.
Lillie Mae Laska and Lavern Hruska were wed in October.
80 Years Ago – 1944
JV Keller purchased the city building next to the Buches store where he opened a café.
90 Years Ago – 1934
The Homecoming Parade was led by the queen, Dorothy Logue and her attendants, Charleen Cooper, Thelma Forman, Eleanor Acers, and Helen Ishmael.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Theis.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Seivert Johnson.
