10 Years Ago – 2014
The Lake Andes Eagles celebrated their homecoming week. Homecoming dress up days included Flag Day, Twin Day, Sports Day, Holiday and Black/Gold Day.
National 4-H Week was celebrated October 5th – October 11th.
Flo Clairmont was awarded a 2014 Native American “40 under 40” award.
Winter Neal and Jaeley Braun took part in a Scrubs Camp put on by the Avera St. Mary’s in Yankton.
Tristen Kiyukan and Winter Neal toured Kolberg Pioneer, Applied Engineering and Wilson Trailers in Yankton as part of Manufacturing Week.
Homecoming Queen was Rebecca Lehman and Homecoming King was Tyrone Flying Hawk.
20 Years Ago – 2004
Brenda Kokesh opened her new business, Back N Motion at Rita’s Hair Care in Lake Andes.
Open house and dance for Barry and Mary Jo Bruner was held on October 16th.
The Lake Andes Central football team picked up a win over the Marty Braves.
30 Years Ago – 1994
Pickstown Community Church held its 7th annual potato bake.
The football cheerleaders were Denise Stowalls, Amber Solko, Denise Slaba and Patti Evans.
40 Years Ago – 1984
The Lady Eagles subdued Scotland 54-38 and the Avon Pirates 68-38 in the LMVC. Leading the team were Kim Miller, Melissa Boetel, Susan Carda, Jean Payer and Jodi Pipes.
Kristi Irwin of Lake Andes, was selected to represent South Dakota in the National Western 4-H Roundup, which was an educational and recognition program.
Susan Thaler completed Air Force Basic training.
50 Years Ago – 1974
Local winners in the Punt, Pass and Kick contest were Jon Carda, Jim Bucholz, Greg Vasek, Steve Spawn and Kevin Vasek.
The scoreboard at the football field was replaced.
Doug Kniffen, Greg Kietman, Mark Stedronsky, Todd Payer, Doug Edwards, and Terry Chytka led the fired-up Andes Central Eagles to win over the Platte Panthers 24-0.
60 Years Ago – 1964
The Ravinia Homecoming Royalty were Philip Honomichl and Phillis Kranig. The attendants were Barb Nielsen, Ella Mae Sorenson, Lorenzo Dion and Ernie Iron Hawk. Curtis Anderson and Diane Weaver were crowned Prince and Princess.
A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nelson October 15th, Cindy Lea.
70 Years Ago – 1954
Dan and Carol Morrow were married October 18th.
Lake Andes toppled the Pickstown Engineers 20-14.
80 Years Ago – 1944
The Lake Andes school will conduct season ticket sales. Grade school students will be two and half cents, high school students five cents and adults ten cents.
90 Years Ago – 1934
There was a special on the Lake Andes Wave, $1.00 for a whole year.
The first home football game was between Fairfax and the Andes Terriers.
Potatoes were $ 0.29 per pound and $1.69 for a 100-pound bag.
