10 Years Ago – 2014

The Andes Central JAG program received school supplies from the National Relief Fund.

A card shower was asked for in honor of James Sejnoha’s 90th birthday party.

Race for a Reason set a date of September 27th to hold their annual event in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The Eagles volleyball team had an overall record of 1-5.

The Eagles football team was 1-2 for the start of the season.

20 Years Ago – 2004

Candidates for Homecoming King and Queen were Harry Medicine Bear, Kelsey Cavender, Will Bennett, Charlotte Pesicka, Katie Gall and Casey Gau.

Katie Gall and Brandi Gau brought home all-tournament team medals from the Wessington Springs Tournament.

AndesCentralHighSchool Senior stars from football include: Will Bennett, Jacob Flying Hawk, Paul Flying Hawk, Casey Gau, Harry Medicine Bear and Mike Fast Horse.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Eagle football team captains were Bobby Nelson and Randy Sellers.

Varsity football cheerleaders were Michele McCabe, Janice Blaha, Stephanie Sejhoha, Tina Myers and Marlys Steinmark.

40 Years Ago – 1974

The new artesian well at Rest Haven Resort was producing 150 gallons of water per minute. The drilling crew had to go down only 746 feet before they reached the water supply. The new well cam is handy when the only boat and bath house which was rarely used bathing, caught fire.

Daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Aase and Mr. and Mrs. David Peshek. Sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Steve Sanders and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Cruse.

60 Years Ago – 1964

James Peacock and Barbra Haar, Lake Andes; Sharon Adam, Pickstown; and Pamela Perkers, Ravinia were named by Andes State Bank to attend the Third Annual Economic Conference for Young Adults.

Delores Slab and George Bailey were married.

70 Years Ago – 1954

Don Von Asperen, Roger O’Connor, Jack Finegan and Harold Carda did an outstanding job from the Lake Andes football team as they defeated Geddes 27-6.

Mr. and Mrs. John Engelland are the parents of a son.

John Pesicka purchased the café from John Neu.

John Millard, who has been the only doctor in Lake Andes, announced that he will be moving to Ohio.

Henry Lapour and Miss Alice R. Rasavy were married.

Lake Andes School notes: seventh and eighth grade news: Walter Soulek started in the seventh grade, coming from a rural district. Fifth and sixth grade news: the students who come from the country are Jeffrey Archambeau, sixth grade; Carney Nelson, Ione Carda, Arlene Pesicka, Roger Kasulka and Vincent Bechen, fifth grade.

90 Years Ago – 1934

Three high school pupils were chosen to take charge of certain periods. Hazel Edgerton is head librarian with Mona Johnson and Isyble Page as assistants.

Senior class officers were: Melvin Bemmer, President; William Wuest, Vice-President; and Keith Lanam, secretary-treasurer.

Lawrence Donovan moved his blacksmith shop from Lakeside garage to a building next door to the lumber yard.

Martha Sedivy and Frank Svatos were married.
