10 Years Ago – 2014

Andes Central returned 12 letter winners for the 2014-2015 school year including Trezen Doren, Reno Longe, Leo Hopkins, Jason Drapeaux, Hayden Medicine Horn, Emily Houseman, Madison Gray, Erica Kitchenmaster, Payton Johanneson, Cybil Chytka, Rebecca Lehmann, and Ashley Kirkpatrick.

Chain gang members (Larry Johnson, Marlin Laska and Larry Laska) were recognized at half time of the football game. Marlin and Larry started working the chain game in 1976, all three retired in 2012.

20 Years Ago- 2004

Norman E. Cihak resigned as Charles-Mix County Auditor.

A 55-foot keel-boat, carrying the Lewis and Clark Discovery Expedition from St. Charles, Missouri and two pirogues manned by Lewis and Clark enactors visited Fort Randall.

Susanne Parker and Dan Stluka were united in marriage.

The Andes Central Lady Eagles have jumped to a 3-1 record after the opening week of the 2004 volleyball season and are showing great promise despite their youth and relative inexperience.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Ribbon cutting ceremonies were held for the new 911 emergency response system located within the Charles Mix County Law Enforcement Center.

Brian Braun led the defensive effort for the Andes Central Eagles with 20 tackles, followed by J.D. Evans with 17 tackles as they defeated Bonesteel-Fairfax 24-12.

40 Years Ago – 1984

The Lake Andes Little Angels organization had a heavy-duty community sign made for use by anyone on Main Street.

Kathie Lynn and Lisa Marie were born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Birger.

50 Years Ago – 1974

Jackie Douglas joined The Beauty Shoppe staff.

Andes State Bank announced that their new walkup window has been finished.

Mr. and Mrs. Barney Kelley, owners, and Mr. and Mrs.DanTrimble,managers, of Rest Haven Country Club and Resort are making plans for the future of Rest Haven, a one-time nationally known resort on Lake Andes. It was the good fishing on the lake that once brought fame to the resort.

60 Years Ago – 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bruner are the parents of a daughter.

Phil Murray was selected as the President of the Student Body of Lake Andes High School with Jim Solko as the vice-president, Jane Kozak was elected from the junior class to be the secretary- treasurer.

70 Years Ago – 1954

The Knute Langelands will be holding their farm sale. Their friends will be sorry to hear of them leaving this community after having lived here well over half a century. They were here before the town of Lake Andes was started and can tell its history in detail from “scratch”. Since their wedding day in April 1913, they have lived on the same farm, in the same house, west of Lake Andes.
