Mayor Stegmeier urged voters in the city of Lake Andes to vote for an opt-out during a special election.
Jerry Seiner shared what a day was like working in the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) during his deployment along with his fellow soldiers from Wagner’s 153rd Engineering Battalion.

City workers installed the four way stop signs at the intersection of Main and 3rd. A waterfowl disease, botulism has been responsible for the loss of several hundred ducks on the Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge.
50 Years Ago – 1974
“Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” was scheduled to play at the Ft. Randall Autovue Drive-In.
60 Years Ago – 1964
Lake Andes was downed by Avon in District 6 players in the game played in continuous rain for all nine innings. Richard Cerney of Geddes took honors of Grand Champion Steer and Roger Pavlis owned the Reserve Champion Steer at the Charles-Mix County 4-H Achievement Days.
70 Years Ago – 1954
General Potter, Army Corps of Engineers, will be in attendance at Fort Randall Dam when more than 1,000 rural electric members will gather to have a conducted tour of the power installations at the Fort Randall Dam.
JoAnn Kadlec and Edward Verba were married.

Joe Novak and Orchestra were scheduled to play for St. Mark’s Church Dance. Admission was 50 cents and 25 cents.

A modern stoker has been installed in the courthouse furnace and also one in the school house furnace. They pay for themselves in 30 months in the savings between the cost of high-priced coal necessary without them and the cheap coal they consume without lessening the services rendered.
100 Years Ago- 1924
The crop outlook is most flattering and a few excellent reports are coming in. Following are a few: from Prickett Bros., we hear they have an oat yield of 90 bushels to the acres. They have 165 acres of wheat which ran 24 bushels of No. 1 grade; Col. R.S. Parker, two miles northeast of town, threshed 40 acres of rye that averaged 35 bushels of first grade; Frank Blankenhagen threshed 40 acres of oats that yielded 65 bushels per acre.
