10 Years Ago – 2014
The Delta Dental Philanthropic Fund once again sponsored the Dakota Smiles Mobile Dental program at Andes Central.
The 1st annual Jakes Event held by the National Wild Turkey Federation, Fort Randall Gobblers Chapter and the Game, Fish and Parks Step Outside Program was a great success.
The Charles-Mix County 4-H Club held their annual Achievement Days.
In the cattle show, the round robin winners were Darby Knoll and Sydney Dvorak tying for Reserve Champion Showmanship and Dylan Knoll was awarded Grand Champion Showmanship.
20 Years Ago – 2004
Bill Maule R.N. and Dr. Cynthia Drovdal were united in marriage.
Senator Tom Daschle hosted a community supper and participated in the Yankton Sioux Pow Wow in Lake Andes.
30 Years Ago – 1994
Roy Wheat celebrated his 100th birthday. Governor Walter Miller presented Roy with an Executive Proclamation proclaiming August 10 as “Roy Wheat Day” Jenny Evans, Liz Spawn and Sally Florey each doubled to lead the way for the Lady Bandits as they upped their record to 10-4 by defeating Kocers/Webers of Wagner.
Dialing 911 for emergency services, including the sheriff, police, ambulance and fire, is now a reality in Charles-Mix County. It was set into operation on August 10th.
40 Years Ago – 1984
Barbara Feltman and James Korb were united in marriage.
Loretta Adam and Michael Jochim exchanged vows.
50 Years Ago – 1974
The Lake Andes VFW Teeners baseball team placed fourth in the 1974 State “B” Baseball Tournament.
60 Years Ago – 1964
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Carda are the parents of a son.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Linnell celebrated their silver wedding anniversary with an open house.
Lyle Bergin is the new manager of the Lake Andes Co-op Service Station.
A record of 101 new members were signed in a period of one week by members of the Charles Mix NFO.
Playing at Fort Randall Autovue Drive-In Theatre: “No Man Is an Island”, Walt Disney’s “The Sword in the Stone”, Elvis Presley “Kissin’ Cousins” and Bobby Vinton in “Surf Party”.
The Lake Andes baseball club won their way into the district 6 Tournament with an 8-7 win over Wagner. In the first game with Wagner, leading hitters for the Lakers were Bill Carda and Gray Carda. Batters for Lake Andes were Terry Carda and Red Allen. In the last game, Terry Waters got two hits in five times at bat. Paul Kern and Rich Assam got the only extra base hits which were doubles.
70 Years Ago – 1954
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Donovan purchased Red’s Cleaners from Mr. and Mrs. David Maxwell.
Mr. and Mrs. James Sejnoha are the parents of a daughter.
ToylandRoyaltywascrowned last Friday evening as part of the program presented by the American Legion at the High School Auditorium. Mark Ebsen and Twila Kisely were crowned King and Queen; Tommy Phillips and Gayle Kietzmann were Prince and Princess; and Mike Ebsen as Duke.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil B. Kucera celebrated their silver wedding anniversary with a picnic dinner at their cottage on Dreamland Park on Lake Andes. Mrs. Kucera is the former Elsie Pavlis.
100 Years Ago – 1924
Fincke and Jordan have installed their sawing machinery near Beebe Island, seven miles southwest of Lake Andes and are producing thousands of feet of cottonwood dimension timbers for the new river bridge at Wheeler. Their first order includes 12 x 12-foot timbers at least 16 foot long.
G.F. Kane of Anton, Iowa purchased the Wave.
W.H. Scott of Dupree has been appointed receiver of the County Seat State Bank and has taken up his duties.
