Ernie Bures, Sr. was named the 1994 Wagner Labor Day Honorary Parade Marshal. His unique farm floats had been a popular addition to the annual parade for over 55 years and he had won first place in the farm float division for 41 straight years.

The Lake Andes VFW Teeners shut out the White Lake Teeners 11-0 Thursday night and downed them 12-3 Friday night to become the Region II Champs, and earned the right to defend their 1973 State Championship title.
The Department of Natural Resources in Pierre has accepted the petitions for the formation of the Randall Rural Water District under the laws of the State of South Dakota. The Randall Rural Water District is the first district formed under the amended South Dakota water district laws amended during the 1974 session of the State Legislature.

Leo Soulek, manager of Lake Andes Farmer’s Co-op Elevator, said the “small grain harvest was the worst in 16 years”.
70 Years Ago – 1954
Louis Otte was 2-3 to lead the Lake Andes hitters as they defeated the Tabor Bluebirds.
Lake Andes is one-third dry, the water being at the lowest ebb since 1894, at which time it was completely dry. In the year 1882, the water in the lake ran over its banks. After this the water continued going down until the lake was completely dry in 1994.
Mrs. Mabel Smith who has been in the Charles-Mix County Welfare Office for the past 17 years resigned her position as County Director.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hazuka entertained a large number of relatives and friends at their home honoring their son, Sgt. Frank Hazuka, home on furlough from the southwest Pacific.
County School Superintendent Mrs. Margaret Sprick reports that of the 110 schools in Charles-Mix County this year replies have come from 61. Wages are in the upper brackets and following is the rate of salaries: for teachers are contracted: four at $160 a month; two at $140; 14 at $140; eight at $135; one at $130; several at $125, $115 and $110. The average wage was $128.
