ORAL INTERP RECEIVES CHAMPION SWEEPSTAKES AT HOME INVITATIONAL
On Sunday, October 3, Avon’s Oral Interpretation Team spent their afternoon performing their pieces and receiving feedback at the Oral Interp Retreat. The team performed each of their pieces twice, and used the judges critiques to prepare for their upcoming meet.
Avon hosted the Avon Invitational Oral Interpretations Retreat on October 9, where the team earned the Avon Invitational Champion Sweepstakes. Competitors earned other awards: Kimberly Tolsma and Ashley Tolsma, (1st) Duet Interpretation; Ashley Tolsma (1st) Humorous Reading; Reece Loewe (Runner-up) Poetry Reading and (1st) Interpretation of Serious Prose; Sarah Swier, Gracie Small, McKenna Kocmich, Courtney Sees, and Reece Loewe (Runner-up) Readers Theatre; and Caleb Wallinga (Runner-up) Non-Original Oratory. Other teams that competed at the meet included Wagner, Winner, Woonsocket, Stanley County, and Corsica-Stickney.
Regarding the meet, Coach Sara Hento said, “The Avon Oral Interp Team started the season with a strong showing at the inaugural Avon Oral Interp Invite. I am impressed with the dedication and effort the students are putting forth to polish their pieces before districts. As a coach, it is fun to see how students improve week to week with their pieces and their characterizations.”
Avon’s Oral Interp Team has been hard at work preparing for the District Oral Interpretation Meet on November 2.
Senior Tiffany Pelton said, “The great cook herself, Angie Ferwerda, knew right from the start that I love baked beans. That made me feel really special.” Pelton realized all of the work that goes into preparing school lunches. She is really thankful for all the cooks do for our staff and students.
