ONE-ACT MAKES IT TO STATE!!
The one-act play called “Selfie” written by Bradley HaywarddonebytheAvondrama department, recently went to a regional competition in Mitchell where they competed against four other schools in hopes to make it to state. The other plays were “When Bad ThingsHappentoGoodActors” by Mt. Vernon, “The Internet is Distract”- “Oh Look a Kitten” by Ethan, “Bad Dates” by Kimball, and“AlltheBases”by Armour.AvonManagedtotake first place with Ethan coming in second, Kimball coming in third, Mt. Vernon coming in fourth, and Armour coming in last. This means that Avon andEthanwillbemovingonto the state competition happening February second through February fourth. Avon will be performing at 9:45 am on the second and the awards ceremony will be held at 6:30 pm on the fourth if anyone would like to go watch their amazing performance.
All of the actors and actresses in the play managed to get a regional medal by getting at leasttwooutofthreevotesfrom the judges. The actors Kaeli Wallinga, Caleb Wallinga, Megan Gretschmann, and Noah Watchorn got a vote from all three of the judges for their excellent performance on stage.
AlthoughAvonsecuredfirst place in regionals the director and actors felt the play was far from perfect. The goal for any Avon performance is that it is the best of the best, meaning when they are judged they should be getting all superior votes. When looking back on the performance what they got was a mixture of superior and excellent. Their goal for state competition is to turn those excellent scores into superior. Looking back on their previous performance, the biggest thing they need to work on is blocking and using the whole stage instead of going to the sameplaceseachtimesomeone comes on.
I hope that many people will go to watch them in the state competition and cheer them on as they aim for first place.
