A new event for southeastern South Dakota will be held on Sunday, June 13 at Wagner Lake in Wagner. This new event is being created by ”East River Horizons” and will be known as the “605 Unity JAM”. The event will feature culture and music as the way to help encourage people to come together and learn more about each other.

The purpose of this event is to help increase cultural awareness, understanding, appreciation and acceptance for all cultures in the area. One of the goals is to create an activity for everyone to feel welcome and will want to bring their family to enjoy the day. The event is designed to help build a sense of community for the area and will involve the creation of partnerships with local businesses, Yankton

Sioux Tribe, community organizations and local agencies all working together to provide a successful event. Every community has a community asset in their area and It is hoped that this event will draw attention to the Wagner communities Wagner Lake for all to enjoy when in the area. The ability to work together will be key to the success of the event as that is the most important goal of all.

This will be a “Multi-Cultural Celebration” that will feature cultural related presentations, demonstrations, a wide variety of music, information booths, arts & craft and food venders. There will also be the opportunity to rent a kayak to explore Wagner Lake, a fishing contest for children, as well as inflatables and carnival games as well. In addition, a bean bag tournament will also be held for teens and adults and an outdoor church service will also be held just prior to the event.

The planning committee is presently looking for people in the area who are willing to share interesting information about their culture for the shear enjoyment of sharing.
