NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AT THE LEGION

The Wagner American Legion Auxiliary kicked off its 2025-2026 community service year with its inaugural event on Tuesday, August 5. In celebration of National Night Out, which falls on the first Tuesday of August, the Auxiliary organized a community- wide patriotic painting party and complimentary supper. From 5 to 7 p.m., the Wagner American Legion Hall welcomed residents for a festive evening featuring walking tacos and homemade desserts prepared by Auxiliary members.

Guests were invited to express their creativity before or after their meal by painting one or more patriotic pictures. About 25 participants, ranging across all ages, shared their own interpretations of patriotism through art. The resulting works featured flags, poppies, candles, and other symbols, culminating in 34 unique canvases. These creations will be offered to local businesses interested in displaying them, and the Auxiliary also plans to share some with veterans residing in local nursing homes.

Despite a modest turnout, the Auxiliary considered the evening a resounding success. The event provided an opportunity for community members to gather at the Legion Hall, discuss the meaning of patriotism, connect with Legion members, and honor two families whose loved ones have recently begun their military service. The Auxiliary hopes to make this gathering an annual tradition, nurturing community bonds and shared reflection year after year.
