The Avon High School Choir went to Vermillion on February 11th. The choir was very successful, winning a total of twelve “1” ratings and five “2” ratings. Mrs. Schultz commented, “I am proud that we had twenty entries, coming from a small school, while other schools bring way fewer numbers. We also had great concert etiquette compared to the other schools.” We asked some of the choir students what they thought about the contest; Atyliese Akridge responded, “It was a good experience seeing other schools and listening to everyone's songs.” Bailey Wynia added,“I thought it was fun to get to sing in front of other people; plus, we got to miss a day of school!” Finally, we heard from Kuyper Rush: “It was fun to see other schools and how they sang.” Students also reported that they learned a lot from this experience. “I learned that you have to pay attention, and can’t mess around,” commented Jayden Petrik. “You can always practice and get better as the years go on. I also learned that you should support everyone by showing up to their songs,” added Atyliese. The high school band has also been busy. They went to Lennox on February 25th. The band won a total of two “1” ratings and six “2” ratings. Mr. Sexe thought that the contest was a great experience for the students by having smaller groups and solos. He also said, “It was my first time going to one of these contests.” We asked the students what they thought. Addison Lavelle said, “I felt confident in our groups; overall we had a good time, and I noticed that the kids who were in fewer songs got better ratings.” “I learned that anything is possible,” commented Mason Jolley. “I was most proud of Dominic, Mason, and Cale for scoring “1’s”, added Charli Cooper. All in all, the choir and band both did an amazing job at their contests– Congratulations!
