MOTLEY ANDERSON & KLOUCEK ASK FOR MORE TIME FOR PUBLIC COMMENTS ON USPS CLOSURE OF SIOUX FALLS REGIONAL POSTAL CENTER

Frank Kloucek retired Legislator & strong post office advocate from Scotland, BJ Motley President South Dakota Federation of Labor AFL-CIO from Sioux Falls & Mark Anderson Sioux Falls retired President South Dakota Federation of Labor AFL – CIO have asked for an extension of the comment period for the proposed closure of the Sioux Falls Regional USPS Distribution Center and shifting it to the Omaha office.

“I believe the people's voice should be heard before drastic changes are decided. There are to many questions to be asked, we need time for more research to come to a conclusion. Give the people a chance to speak.” said BJ Motley AFL-CIO President Sioux Falls South Dakota.

Mark Anderson said; “We are asking for an extension of the comment period for the proposed shift of the Regional USPS Processing Center in Sioux Falls to Omaha Nebraska. We are asking that the date be extended from March 28th to May 1st and public comment be allowed via 1st class mail as well. The postal workers, affected businesses hospitals, local governments and the general public deserve a chance to give their input. According to information received at the March 13th public meeting at THE SOCIAL in Sioux Falls more than half of the mail sent to Omaha will be from the Sioux Falls zip code area [if this change is approved.] This is unacceptable. The priority seems to be filling up the trucks and not providing next service.”

“The Postal Office of Communications did a terrible job of letting the media and the public know about the proposals to move Huron Regional post office to Fargo North Dakota and the Sioux Falls center to Omaha South Dakota. The public has only 15 days from the public meeting on March 13th in Sioux Falls until tomorrow March 28th to fill out an internet MONKEY survey! Why is not the Post office allowing public input using their first class letter mail delivery system?

It is the US Postal Service, not a privately owned for profit corporation!” said Frank Kloucek.

The three are asking for the extension because they believe the public has a right to know, get the facts and give input on such an important issue affecting all citizens in the Sioux Falls Postal Delivery region.
