MARSHALL AND BRANDT JOIN HABITAT BUILD IN FIJI

By
Bula, Bula = Hello in Fiji. Betty Marshall and Rev. Dan Brandt did a Thrivent/Habitat building from August 16 - 23, building restrooms and a septic system for village Mulomulo for their after school activities and community center. There were 20 people on the team, first since covid, tenth international build for Betty and twelfth for Dan. Cement mixing was in wheelbarrows with hoes and Fiji pine, very heavy and hard, for the walls. The village ladies cooked rice, curries, fruit, vegetables and authentic Fiji food. It began with a sarong ceremony with the chief and ended with a community celebration, a real highlight. Three hundred 300 islands, some touring was done. Postcards could not be sent and stamps could not be bought for Americans because of our tariffs. Christianity, Hindu and Muslims make up religions in that order. There are not cannibals any longer. A happy, joyful and welcoming people. Vinaka = thank you Fijians.
