MAKING UNITY PLANS?
Have you ever heard someone say: “There is noting to do!” If you have, then pass the following information on to that person as they are not reading the paper or talking to people who are making plans to attend the 2nd Annual “605 Unity JAM” at Wagner Lake in Wagner, S.D. on Sunday, June 12.
This project requires 72 volunteers to help and several financial partner, all working to make this event a success. Volunteers are presently putting together “Awesome Teams of 8” to help create the help needed for the event. The ultimate goal is you help increase our cultural awareness, understanding, acceptance and appreciation of all the cultures that are in our area. If you could help in some way, but have not been contacted, please contact Dana Sanderson and change the situation.
The “Unity JAM” event will feature food trucks and arts and craft venders that will be here to help make the day more enjoyable for everyone. The event will feature a variety of activities such as: a “Youth Fishing Clinic & Fishing Derby”, a “Scavenger Bingo”, a “Czech Kolache-Eating Contest”, cultural presentations and demonstrations. There will also be inflatables and carnival games for children and a “Cardboard Box Boat Regatta” as a fun-fundraiser to help with the effort to build a new swimming pool for the community. Entertainment is as the center of the event and will feature “Jam Time” in Rotary Shelter and on the main stage entertainers such as: Jim Bridge, who will be singing and sharing memories and comments. Czech Tabor Dancers will be demonstrating traditional Czech dances, Phil & Friends will also be performing some great big band music and Uncle Roy The Boys will be playing some great country music for your enjoyment. In addition, Koby Jordan, a rising star entertainer/singer/song writer will be playing what has made him popular. He has a large following in the Sioux Falls area and has released a recording of his work. The very talented entertainer/ dancer/story teller, Jackie Bird will also be preforming followed by the event’s final headliner Richie Lee & The Fabulous 50’s from Des Moines, Iowa. A “50’s & 60’s Dress Contest” for a door prize will also be a part of the programing during the concert. Everyone is reminded to bring a lawn chair or a blanket for your comfort. Also note that KSFY and KDLT and Results Radio have requested information about the “Unity JAM” so we will see what this leads to. Both communication groups have asked questions about the event and the “Unity Buffalo Community Art Project” and what it means to the community and tourism for southeastern South Dakota. Bartlesville, Oklahoma was just visited by Roy King of Armour and he noticed the positive impact their “Buffalo Community Ar “ has had upon their community and tourism. Communities like this have found great success with this kind of vision. What the “Unity Buffalo Community Art Project” could mean to our community and tourism is yet to be discovered.
