The volleyball season ended for the Wagner Red Raiders the 18th of November, but for senior, Macy Koupal, there was a bit more to be added to her season. Macy was one of three of the Lady Raiders to play in the South Dakota All-Star Volleyball Match which included other seniors from all across the eastern part of South Dakota. Macy was also in the running for the 2023 SD Miss Volleyball Class A title and was named honorable mention as a candidate for the 2023 Midco Sports South Dakota High School Class A Volleyball Player of the Year.

When asked how she felt about receiving an honorable mention for class A volleyball player of the year, she said, “It was a surreal feeling”. She also says, “I owe a lot of this recognition to my teammates, both former and current, my coaches, and my support at home.” For Macy it was nice to be recognized for the hard work that goes into playing, but she knows that she could not do it without her teammates. As a setter, she cannot do her job without first getting a good pass or without being able to set it to a good hitter. Volleyball is the most team sport out there because one person cannot do it all and Macy was lucky enough to be surrounded by some amazing athletes during her volleyball career in Wagner.

During her high school volleyball career at Wagner Community School, Macy has earned many awards and milestones. Those include getting her 1,000, 2,000 and 3,000 assist milestones, Southeast South Dakota Conference (SESD) team, Little Missouri Valley Conference (LMVC) team, All Tournament team for the Parkston Tournament, Conference All-Tournament team, State All-Tournament team, Volleyball 1st Team All-State, and she was a finalist for Miss Volleyball South Dakota. Macy set a new WCS school record with her 3,320 career assists.

Macy is the daughter of Michael and Tera Koupal. She has five siblings Ashlyn (16), Cruise (14), Riggs (8), Dash (5), and Elsie (3). When she is not at school or playing sports for WCS, Macy enjoys spending time with her friends and family, reading, and baking.

Congratulations Macy on a great senior year volleyball season and an outstanding high school volleyball career as a Wagner Red Raider.
