PROVERBS 13:13 "Whoso despiseth the word shall be shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded."(KJV)

This scripture is noting that there are many who despise the Word of God. They do not want to hear it because the Word of God requires people to change their way of life. They want God to change---but it doesn't work that way.

ISAIAH 5:20,21 "Woe unto them that call evil good and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet,, and sweet for bitter. Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight."(KJV)

ISAIAH 5:23 "which justify wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him."(KJV)

ISAIAH 5:24 "is explained further "Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the Law of the Lord of Hosts, and despised the Word of the Holy One of Israel."(KJV)

These scriptures indicate what PROVERBS 13:13 says will come to those who despise the Word of God. They "shall be destroyed".

Their hopes and dreams of joy and happiness will end up with pain and suffering in hell. But PROVERBS 13"13 goes on to say, " but they that feareth (love) the Commandment ( The Word of God) shall be rewarded."

If by hearing God's Word and believing it and trusting in the Word of God--one can be saved and be rewarded with sins forgiveness, a promise of eternal life with Jesus in heaven and also be the recipient of all the other promises in God's Word.

As we can see loving the Word of God results in great rewards.
