A LOOK INSIDE MS. JURRENS' CLASSROOM

Alexis Jurrens has walked the hallsof AvonHighSchoolasbotha studentandateacher.Ms.Jurrens graduated from Avon in 2012. She has taught middle school and high school science for the past seven years, two of them being in Avon.

As of recently, Ms. Jurrens has beenbusyworkingwithhermiddle school students on their science fair projects. The students are preparing their posters to present at theAvonScienceFaironFebruary 12, 2024. The Junior biology class has been learning about DNA and how proteins are made. Anatomy students have been discussing the cardiovascular system and plan to dissect a heart in the next few weeks!

When asked about the highlights of her school year thus far Ms. Jurrens said, “Some of my favorite moments from the year have been getting to take athletes to state cross country, cheering for all of the teams throughout their seasons, and getting to hang out with fun coworkers and students each day.” In regards to the next few months of school, Ms. Jurrens is looking forward to taking students to the regional science fair in Brookings. She is also excited to attend the HOSA (Healthcare Occupation Students of America) state conference as well as travel to the Omaha zoo for a behind the scenes look with her HOSA students. She is also eager for track season to start so she can spend time outside in the nice weather.

When Ms. Jurrens is not teaching, coaching, or cheering for the sports teams, she enjoys “reading, going for walks, traveling to new places, and spending time with friendsandfamily.”Afewfunfacts about Ms. Jurrens are: she has taught in a total of three schools during her career, she has never had a pet, and she “consumes far too much caffeine each day.”
