Avon School Board members were recognized, they are President Jerry Finck and members Scott Van Gerpen, Mike Oorlog, Lori Cihak and Terry Berndt.
Avon standout running back Derek Cihak was named to the Argus Leader Elite 45 team.

Firefighters were recognized at Banquet. Louis Dykstra honored for his 45 years of service, Bob Reister honored for his 45 years of service and Dave Brandt for being Fire Chief from 1994 to 2000.
Avon area received over six inches of heavy snow this past weekend.
Avon Livestock has been building up their clientele lately with some big sales.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bouza of Tripp announcedthe engagement of their daughter Diane to Kevin Kocmick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kocmick of Dante.

JoEllen Heisinger and Tom Reiff were married November 20th in Parkston.
Kristi Curl of SDSU was home for the weekend.
Jake DeGroot was honored on his second birthday with a dinner at his home.
The Danzig WMF met Thursday. Mary Brandt had devotions and Jan Voigt directed the Bible Study.
The Gloryland Quartet met at the Jerry Finck home for an after holiday dinner.
Ron’s Specials: Heinz Ketchup 32 oz. for 99 cents, lettuce 39 cents a head, ground beef $1.09 per pound and buttertop bread- 79 cents a loaf.

The Avon Debate Team came home with five wins and three losses in the Vermillion Tourney where 35 schools participated. The A Team was Jeff Pier, Jim Bonin, Mary Engel and Diane Fees. The 7th and 8th YCL Officers are: Pres. Wally Voigt, V. Pres. Sandy Gremmert, Sec. Bobby Olson and Librarian Danny Van Gerpen.
A baby boy was born to Richard Roth’s on January 9th.
Ed Juell was named Chamber President with Klas Hento as Vice President, Bill Pier, secretary and Otto Pudwill as treasurer.

A Prayer Conference will be held at German Pres. Church January 24th starting at 10 a.m., and continuing until 7:30 p.m.
The Yankton Independent Team lost in overtime to Avon 32-31. Weinhart, former Avon HS star, dropped in several field goals in the closing minutes. Fathke, Avon center, had 12. Other scorers were Westra and Bertus.
Miss Hilda Hento and Clarence Weibenga were united in marriage. They were attended by Ann Olsen and Klas Hento.
On the Honor Roll at James School are Stanley Voigt, James Janssen, Harlen Voigt and Willis Engel.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Boepple are rejoicing over the arrival of a baby girl born January 10th and named Betty Marlene.
The fifth grade honor roll has Leatta Brandt and Beverly Giedd.
