July 1911

The Presbyterian Church will hold services in the hall. There will be German in the morning and English in the evening. Sunday School in English at 10:00 a.m.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. David J. Brandt, a baby girl, Sunday night.

Mrs. Lincoln Frantz entertained at her home. Dainty luncheons were served with ices. Miss Blanche furnished fine music.

The Orton Brothers Circus was here Wednesday. A good clean show was given.

Ten of the Volunteer Firemen were at the Lead Tournament and enjoyed a tour of the Black Hills sights.

July 1935

LaVelle and Lauren Meiers, sons of Mr. and Mrs. George Meiers, suffered burns on the hands and face on Friday night at their home while they were pumping gas into an open pail by lantern light. The shed was set afire but not much damage was done. The burns were not severe.

The hospital above the R.P. Burns building was vacated by Dr. Hollingsworth on July 15th. It is being redecorated and it is reported that a new doctor is coming in.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Rauh and Valusha are leaving for a 6 weeks vacation to the hills.

July 1964

The Mets were a little short handed and lost to Tabor 8-5. Rookie Ray Johnson banged a home runs with 2 on.

The Mets races to a 20-6 victory over Tyndall. Dean Merkwan picked up the win.

The Avon Jrs. won 16-5 over Tabor.

The Avon Chamber is hosting a Community Breakfast July 30th from 7-9 a.m. in the Legion Hall. No Admission.

Specials at Avon Lockers- 10 pounds of sugar for 89 cents, 3 lbs. of wieners for $1; 5 bottles of catsup for $1, 2 lbs. of ground beef for 89 cents; Grapes 39 cents a pound.

July 1986

Linda Crouse and Chris Cassard were married in Portland, OR, July 5th.

The WCTU met at the home of Mrs. Andrew Namminga.

Jerry Crouse is beginning his new job in Omaha on Monday.

The Pee Wees defeated Tabor 10-4. Scott Voigt was the winning pitcher. Jason Thompson and Korey Mensch were the leading hitters.

The Midgets won 15-8 Matt Eggers and Jeff Hento did the pitching. Rober Olson had a grand slam home run.

The Teeners won two games over Springfield. Top batters were Dan Ridgway, Bad Roth and Scott Brandt.
