1911 - 110 Years Ago

Most of the rural schools are closing for the year while the town schools will not close for 6 more weeks.

A very sad accident occurred at the W.F. Eggers home. 10 year old Ruth was kicked by a horse. Dr. Greenfield was called and preformed an operation for a fracture above the eye. Little Ruth is in critical condition.

Colburn has sold his Avon and Springfield lumber yards. The Avon Lumber Co. is the new name and Fred Vogel is the new manager.

Our city officials are: Mayor - C.J. Bangert, Aud. - A.H. Rosberg, Treas.- Bernard Brandt and Marshall A. B. Justus.

Avon goes wet by 42 majority votes. There were 69 yes and 27 no.

1964 - 57 Years Ago

Kindergarten will begin on April 13th until May 22nd. Mrs. Alvin Brandt will be the teacher.

Mary Borin was elected PTA President.

LeRoy Berndt and Alvin Jonkers left Mar. 25th for induction into the Armed Forces.

Agner Bach was elected as the new Mayor.

A fire burned the hog shed of Lloyd Reiff's to the ground on Saturday.

Infant baptism was held on Sunday at the 1st Pres. Church. Babies baptized were Kay Reiff, Gerald Crouse and Danny Sternhagen.

1986 - 35 Years Ago

Leonard Harmacek is the winner in the city election for one of the council seats.

Mrs. Pat Cihak is shown in a photo with Ron Pelton after winning $500 in his story drawing.

The Friedensberg Church held a burning of the new parsonage mortgage on Sunday morning.

Funeral services were held for Dr. Roland Hubner in Yankton.
