The Elk Point-Jefferson Cub Scouts of 87 held their Blue & Gold Banquet and Pinewood Derby February 13 at the EPJ High School Commons.

Five nursing students from Mount Marty College won first place at the South Dakota Nursing Students Association’s Quiz Bowl at the annual State Convention in Rapid City. The students were Tina Verhulst, Kellie Ebel, Karla Odens, Jill Pickhincke and Laura Thury.
Pat and Carrie Mikkonen of Garretson announced the birth of their first child, Zachary David who was born February 27, 2001 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. He tipped the scales at six pounds, two ounces.
Proud grandparents are Dave and Carol Eggers of Avon, Cook and Dale Davis of Allendale, North Dakota and Ruth and Matt Mikkonen of Fredrick. Great Grandparents are Dorothy Pudwill and Bob Seeiner of Avon, and Amy Van Dover of Fredrick.

Brad Cameron and Jeff Hento were named to the All Conference Basketball team and Ross Romkema was named Honorable Mention.
A family gathering was held Sunday, March 3 in the Legion Hall in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Thorwald Raysby’s 40th wedding anniversary.
Avon really demonstrated that it is a town with a heart. At the February 14th and 15th blood drive, 103 people volunteered to donate blood and 91 were actually able to give.

A double wedding occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Hento. Their two daughters, Marie Hilda and Hilda Marie were married to Henry Biesma and Henry Adema. A reception was held at the Perkins Hall.
