Mr. and Mrs. Andy Eben celebrated their 40th anniversary with a family dinner at the Northvue Cafe.

Paul Van Gerpen was honored for his 1st birthday at the home of his parents.

Pirates beat Bonesteel 49-43 and Stickney 50-51 this week.

Just one Avon wrestler, Tom Reiff, qualified in the Regions 3 wrestling tournament held in Wagner and advances to the State Tourney.

Scott Crouse has been named as Avon’s Boy Stater for 1971 and Leslie Gramkow has been chosen as his alternate.

District Spelling Winners in the rural school were: Grade 1 - Lois Voigt, Mawhinney, Grade 2 - Sharon Radack, Giedd, Grade 3 - Bobby Heisinger, Lake Point, Grade 4 - Barbara Voigt, James, Grade 5 - Ramona Voigt, James, Grade 6 - Linda Crouse, Sperry, Grade 7 - Charmaine Muller, Mennonite, Grade 8 - Loxie Voigt, Smith.

Mr. and Mrs. Milo Bartunek and Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Rehurek were guests in the Danny Rehurek home in Huron.

Leonard Meyer reported the loss of 50 choice hens that were stolen while he was attending a basketball game in Avon.

Avon’s first basketball team lost to Tabor 24-38 but the second team won its 6th game of the season 37-9.
